Humidifier Care
Simple Tips to Keep Your Humidifier Functioning Efficiently
Dirty humidifiers can breed mold and bacteria, but with some quick maintenance tips that any handy homeowner can tackle, your humidifier can continue running at optimum capacity. Depending on usage, Guardian Technologies recommends a tank should be cleaned every 1-2 weeks — however, be sure to consult the product manual for specific information.
How to Clean Your Humidifier
1. Unplug & Drain
Unplug the humidifier before you clean it and pour out excess water.
2. Clean
Wash spray cap, spray spout and water tank lid with mild dish soap. In the base, soak the ultrasonic disk using 1 tsp white vinegar and 1 tsp water for 5 minutes. Then, clean gently with the brush provided or a wash cloth.
3. Rinse
Drain any excess vinegar. Be sure to rinse parts throughly. Clean the water tank by rinsing with warm water only.
4. Dry
Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Set the humidifier upside down with the cap off so any excess of the water can escape.
We do not suggest running anything through the humidifier!

Replacing Cartridges
Humidifier cartridges remove minerals and other pollutants to keep the humidified air you breathe cleaner, so change them regularly. If you aren't using one, consider viewing our line of demineralization cartridges.
Upgrading Humidifiers
After about 8 years, humidifiers can build up deposits that are difficult or impossible to remove. Explore the full catalog of ultrasonic humidifiers by Guardian Technology™.
Important Humidifier Care Information
- If not properly maintained, bacteria and fungi can grow in the tanks of humidifiers and get into the mist that can be breathed in.
- Tap water contains minerals that can create deposits inside your humidifier, which can promote bacterial growth.
- Keep the area around humidifiers dry — place the product up on a table or nightstand vs. the floor and do not place the product on carpet, towels, blankets or other absorbent surfaces.
- Drain and clean humidifiers before storing them, and then clean them again when you take them out of storage.
